Unit: 3.2 Key Definitions

Hegemony
Hegemony mean a position of power or leadership in a given situation like social groups or countries. This all relates back to the main dominate leader establishing rules in which must be obey. An example of hegemony is the prime minister because he creates and enforces the law in the UK.

Moral Panic
Moral Panic often arises around events which have taken place usually in the media, they are usually trivial that are widely blown out of proportion by specific people. its an over reaction to a recent situation within an event e.g. if a singer is wearing reveling cloths within a performance or music video but the lyrics are appropriate this will cause a moral panic as someone would blow the situation out of proportion.

Counter Culture
These are groups if people which go against the normal of the time, sub cultures, for example the pop culture in the 70's then the punk movement took over, to begin with punk was a counter culture, individuals also tend to deviate, not doing what they are told, your parents expect you to wear certain cloths and listen to a type of music, you decide to wear something completely different and listen to rock. this is a sign of rebelling in some peoples eyes.

Permeant Present
Permanent present is used to describe recent event which have over took the media in the present day. The story of the missing Gypsy girl maria is an example of a permeant present as the story is shown around the world to find her parents.

Cultural Myths
A cultural myth is a traditional story which been handed down by each generation which holds specific significant to the individual or group e.g. family or town, often a tale of a heroin or god like figure often telling moral stories or a buttered up explanation of a true phenomenon.

Unit: 3.2 Online Survey using Survey Monkey

I have created an online survey to gain information about what the public would like to be informed about on an online factual broadcast on rugby with the main topic being the issues surrounding the Heineken cup (European fixtures like the champions league)
The questions I asked:
What is your age and gender?
which of the following best describes your current occupation?
What is your Ethnicity?
What is the highest level of Education you have completed?
I created these question to gain an idea and stereotypical demographic of the listeners who would listen to the broadcast, which I will compare my finding with the national readerships servery on social class grading.
what type of Rugby to you like to watch/interested in?
This would allow me to to focus on the most popular type of rugby as the minority of listens would be happy, as well as touching over the less popular types of rugby.
Have you/would you ever attend a Rugby match? what level and how many times?
This question gained two answers i would be looking for, how many are interested but are unsure allowing rules and procedures to be explained and also shows what level the majority of the listener actually watch rugby, introducing a match of the day element of reading out scores.
Is their any TV Programs,Podcast, Magazines or articles you watch/listen too?please list
I used this question to gain who my competitors are and to look at the competitors USP's for the competitor analysis section
Are you interested in the European Rugby Scandal featuring the Heineken Cup? if so what is your opinion.
With the WRU pledging their allegiance with the Anglo-French tournament what do you think will happen to the Heineken cup?
with the Heineken cup n disrepair do you think it will have a nock on effect with lower tournaments like the Amblin Cup?
The last three questions allows me to gain an idea on what people know about the scandal so I could fill in the gaps or do a brief over view on the situation it also gives me a view section with peoples option which we could debate.

Unit 3.2 Primary research: Social Media Feedback on the survey

The First survey tweet

I created two surveys to conduct my primary research, of ideas and opinions of the sport of rugby. I posted both on Twitter and Facebook with a range of replies. I also posted to a selection of Rugby Players playing in the Heineken cup and rugby journalists to see if they would respond to my tweets to gain a more professional audience.

Unit: 3.2 Radio Broadcast Analysis

In this blog I will discuss the structor and audience of two broadcast programs cater for. The three examples I will be discussing are  Radio Four's Desert Island Disc's featuring Russell Brand and Radio two Arts show featuring Claudia Winkleman.
BBC 4 Desert Island disc
Desert Island disc uses a semi structured format of interview with music to help the interview to flow, with every desert island disc the same tune is played at the beginning of the broadcast to acknowledge the audience that Desert Island disc is playing, brand identity . The interviewer Kirsty Young has a formal tone through out the broadcast, with very little variation of voice to show different emotions, this shows shes very professional mannerisms and fits the stereotypical radio 4 presenter.

Radio Two Arts Show
Radio Two's Art Show uses a

Unit 3.2 Questionnaire

Here is my Questionnaire asking about peoples opinion on the Heineken Cup/ Rugby Championship Cup

Unit: 3.2 Market Research Codes and Conventions The Rugby Club

The Rugby Club
Genre
The Main genre of The Rugby Club is special interest this is because of the sport that is discussed and the channel it is broadcasted on, as the title suggests the podcast discusses the sport of rugby, broadcasted every Thursday at 8:00pm on sky sports, the podcast is also educational and a discussion, the podcast discusses with a small panel the recent news, given their own expert opinions on the recent storys, the presenter also encourages the guest to expand their opinions, this is where the educational genre fits it a professional talks about topics with an in depth knowledge.

Format
The format of The Rugby Club is presenter led meaning its follows the format of a quiz/pannel show, the Presenter introduces each topic and keeps the show flowing, usually the podcast features two guests recently it Rory Best discussed the Rugby Player of the Year. I would expect the stereotypical listener to be male over 35,  with a mid to well paid job, to understand the depth of knowledge discussed.
Codes and Convention
The Rugby Club falls into a couple of codes and conventions, opinion, subjectivity, bias and balanced. Subjectivity means that the podcast follows a certain topic, where that is the main basis of the podcast. as the podcast is a pannel type show each guest has their own opinion on the topic making their own opinion bias as their are giving one side of the story, this is where the presenter keeps a balanced discussion

Unit: 3.2 Market Research Codes and Conventions IRB Total Rugby

IRB Total Rugby Podcast

Genre
Total Rugby follows the genres of educational, documentary, special interest and discussion. Total Rugby is a special interest podcast delivering rugby news it in a documentary style, sticking to the facts eradicating their own (bias) opinions. The documentary genre is shown in the way the podcast is delivered, a range of previously recorded structured interviews and a scripted broadcast. As the Podcast follows Rugby this classes it as a specials interest podcast as it will cater to a small audience interested in Rugby Union.
Format
The Format of Total Rugby is Predominately presenter led, introducing the pre recorded interviews as well as discussing the resent topics. As the podcast is very structured through out, all podcast created the format doesn't change. A survey created by the Nation Readership Survey showed the stereo typical subscriber to Rugby World the leading Rugby Magazine 83% are men with 60% being over 35. I believe Total rugby will have a similar viewing age as it combines technology to download the podcast, it discusses a lesser known/ supported sport and goes into in depth analysis of the topics discusses this leads to the  impression that the viewer needs to be more intelligent than the average view to understand and enjoy the program i would expect a large majority of views would have a degree or a higher education qualification
Codes And Conventions
Total Rugby throughout the broadcast keeps an impartial professional structor and presentation throughout, subjectivity, this means that the broadcast follows only facts leaving out the presenters own opinion unless its back up with reliable sources, they achieve accuracy by delivering the facts from accurate sources for example interviewing players, directors of rugby's, the teams or the equvilat depending on the topic.

Unit: 3.2 Market research Codes and Conventions BBC 5 Live

Fighting Talk

Genre
The main genre of Fighting Talk is Special Interest this is due to the topics that are discussed during the Podcast and the radio station it is broadcasted on, as well as Discussion and Educational. Fighting talk is a sports based quiz show where two teams compete for points due to their knowledge of the past weeks sporting news and their comedic answers and general whit. Radio 5 Live is the BBC's sporting channel where live commentary is broadcasted as well as shows revolving around the genre of sport. As Fighting Talk is a quiz show, discussion plays a large part of the broadcast where with each question asked each guest has time to give their option. this is where I think the educational genre fits in to the show, as each topic is explained in a more basic format compared to the news papers, this allows a larger demographic to understand the news which is going on in their selected sport.

Format
The format of Fighting Talk is predominately presenter lead as it follows a quiz show format, the presenter introduces asks the questions and ends each broadcast, where the guests only talk when answering a question, the audience which would listen to Fighting Talk are predominately male in the age range of around 20-60 as for the broad range of topics discussed and most don't people stick with same sport(s) for life. as for the occupation of the listener I would expect them to be an mid to well educated person with a respectable job grade c or above.

Code & Conventions
Fighting Talk falls into a range of codes and conventions. Balance, subjectivity, opinion and bias. As fighting talk is a discussion based quiz show its inevitable each biased opinion of each guest will fall each side of the story giving a balanced view on each topic discussed.  As I just said to give a balanced discussion each side of the argument needs to be biased being one sided and sticking to it like the left and right wing in politics with being biased you are also opinionated, having one view on a topic and sticking to it.

Unit 3.2 Market Research Codes and Conventions BBC Front Row

Front Row

Genre
The front row focuses on the creative media of TV, Radio, Theatre and Film, linking with the genres of magazine radio show, educational, discussion and special interest. As with any radio broadcast the topic chosen is a specialist interest as it focuses on a limited area in this instance creative media on Radio, TV and on Stage with a limited audience as well. The Front Row daily discusses topics which are fresh in the news for example yesterdays broadcast focused on Jude Laws interpretation of Henry V with a small panel, each topic discussed goes into detail about a certain area to give an in depth knowledge into how a production is created and made.
Format
The Front Row is split into two sections of a narrative then presenter led, the first section consist of the presenter reading links to previously recorded interviews followed by the Presenter introducing the topics to disuse with live phone calls for audience questions as well this includes the audience with the program. I would expect the audience to be aged above 45 with a mid to highly paid job but research conducted in 2011 dismissed this stereotype with over 1 million being aged under 35, most didn't have a degree, intelligence is only required and an interest in the topic discussed.
Codes and Conventions
The Front Row contract with listeners by having a call in debate in the second half of the broadcast to debate and discuss the particular issues of that week.As The Front Row evolves around the media getting accurate sources of information is difficult, they achieve accuracy by interviewing the Actors, directors or the equivalent to their media and topic, objectivity means that they have a balanced discussion testing their opinion against facts shown.

Unit 3.2 Paper Based Results

Here I explain and show my results from my paper based questionnaire
